Do you own a dog or cat?
Then you know firsthand of the love between you. They become a member of your family.
Unfortunately, the sad truth is that animal abuse is inflicted mostly on cats and dogs.
The majority of this abuse is in some type of neglect by the owners who do not properly care for their pets. It could be due to financial hardship, or they are simply unwilling to care for their pet. Dogs and cats also frequently suffer from more malicious types of torment.

How to Report Animal Cruelty
Animal abuse is an extremely under reported crime.
Law enforcement officials need your help to learn when cats and dogs are mistreated.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Spot the signs of animal abuse.
Look for animals with untreated wounds, appear malnourished, or are chained up all day.
- Document the abuse.
The more information you have about the nature of the animal abuse, the more useful your testimony will be to officials.
- Take action.
Each state has an agency that handles animal abuse cases. Search for one online before you make a claim. To report crimes in progress, call 9-1-1.
Many animal abuse cases never make it to trial, however, an animal abuse prosecution is more likely to be successful if it has a willing witness who can testify.
- Report websites that depict animal cruelty.
There are laws against showing and selling images and videos of animal abuse. Contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.
