A Front Line Intervention for Animal Cruelty Offenders
“While we do not yet know all the factors that lead someone to be cruel to and/or neglect animals, this animal welfare online course provides a front line intervention. The program leads the offender through a course of information about what constitutes cruelty and neglect, invites him or her to find compassion for the animal and commit to change. The richness of the material will also provide an opportunity for ongoing conversation and assessment of progress for the individual and his or her probation officer.
This may be an important tool in the effort to reduce animal cruelty and provide offenders with information and insights that could discourage recidivism. The training program offers facts about the costs of animal cruelty and also invites the individual to take the perspective of the animal in pain. It calls upon the better nature of the offender with intelligence and compassion.”
